Wilfred J. Schrouder Obituary
It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Wilfred Joseph Schrouder, who left us peacefully on April 22 at the age of 84, surrounded by his family. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He shared a lifelong partnership filled with love and support with his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara, whose strength and companionship were immeasurable.
He was a proud and caring father to his daughter, Colleen, and her husband, Scott, and a joyful grandfather to Zachary and Katharine, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He was equally devoted to his son, Bill, and Bill’s wife, Michelle, cherishing the time spent with their two children Hannah and Hadley, who were a constant source of laughter and love in his life.
A man who valued family deeply, he is also survived by his loving siblings—Don, Carol, Mary, and Kathy - with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and bonds that remained strong throughout the years. Predeceased are his parents, Wilfred and Geraldine Schrouder of Penn Yan, NY.
Professionally, Bill dedicated 41 years to Rochester Gas and Electric (RGE), where his leadership, integrity, and commitment led him to serve as Vice President. His impact extended well beyond his career. He was a respected leader in his community, serving as President of Ontario Country Club and President of Lakeside Country Club, as well as a Senior Board Member of Preferred Care, St Joseph’s Villa, and Veterans Outreach. He was also proud to be one of the founding members of Keuka Comfort Care, reflecting his deep compassion and desire to give back to others. Bill served in the United States Army Reserves.
Outside of his work and service, Bill found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time at Keuka Lake, where many cherished family memories were made, and enjoyed his time in Fort Myers, Florida. He was an avid fan of the Yankees and rarely missed a chance to watch a game. Golf was one of his greatest passions, offering both challenge and camaraderie throughout his life with many of his friends (especially the “Lazy 8’s”).
He will also be fondly remembered by his loyal dog, Gibson, who was never far from his side.
Bill will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his steady guidance, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he served, and the many lives he touched. A private service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Keuka Comfort Care / keukacomfortcarehome.org
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
