Francis Ponticello Obituary

Francis A. Ponticello

August 1, 1945 – April 20, 2026

Francis A. “Fran” Ponticello, age 80, of Penfield, New York, passed away on April 20, 2026 after a long battle with Parkinson’s and kidney disease.

Born on August 1, 1945, Fran spent his early years attending St. Ambrose School, and later Eastridge High School and Syracuse University, carrying forward a lifelong appreciation for education, dedication, and hard work.

At the center of Fran’s life was his extraordinary love story with his wife, Darlene. The two first met on the Avenue D playground, beginning a relationship that would grow into a lifelong, deeply loving partnership spanning 58 years of marriage. Their bond was truly unbreakable, built on devotion, mutual respect, laughter, and shared values. Fran and Darlene created a strong and loving foundation for their family, setting an example of commitment and partnership.

Fran proudly served his country in the United States Army as a clerk, including service at the Pentagon in 1968. He took great pride in his time in uniform and in his contribution to his country.

Fran was a beloved and well-known presence in the Penfield community. Since 1989, he has been one of the proud owners of Penfield Trophies — alongside Darlene and son, Rich — where Fran built lasting personal and professional relationships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations throughout the greater Rochester area and beyond. Known for his business savvy, integrity, and genuine interest in others, Fran made a positive impression on everyone he met. In recognition of his service and impact, he was honored with a Community Service Award by the Penfield Rotary in 2017. That same year, Penfield Trophies was also featured in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle for its long standing as a local business pillar.

Above all else, Fran was a devoted family man. In addition to his beloved wife, Darlene, he is survived by his children, Rich (Stacy) and Anne Coller (Bill), and his adored grandchildren, Madison, Max, Abigail, Margaret, and Santino. He is also survived by many loving extended family members and dear friends. Fran was predeceased by his father, Francis.

Fran was an exceptional grandfather who treasured time spent with his grandchildren. He proudly wore custom t‑shirts featuring their photos and was always ready to drop everything to be there for them. Known as their primary chauffeur, Fran never missed an opportunity to support them in any way he could, including showing up with Krispy Kreme, Subway, or Hotdog Bagels!

He also greatly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—twice‑weekly poker games with cherished friends, a good cigar, a vodka gimlet, and sharing a steady stream of jokes. Fran’s sense of humor and quick wit brought laughter wherever he went.

A role model to many, Fran led by example through a strong work ethic and through the love he showed his family; especially the enduring partnership he shared with Darlene. He understood that life’s greatest gifts are time spent with family and friends, and he lived that truth every day.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Jennings, Nulton, and Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14526. Friends and family will gather later this year for a celebration of Fran’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rochester Parkinson Network or a charity of one’s choice in Fran’s memory.
