James Alan Ebmeyer Obituary

James Alan Ebmeyer, of Penfield, New York, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, with his sons by his side. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of John Henry Ebmeyer and Barbara Ebmeyer.

Jim was raised in Lansing, Michigan alongside his brother, William. From a young age, he demonstrated dedication, character, and leadership, earning the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of the Boy Scouts. Those early experiences helped shape the values that guided him throughout his life.

Jim attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Packaging Technology. He began his career with IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Bedrava. The two later moved to Penfield when Jim accepted a position with Xerox, where he served as Manager of Packaging. Committed to lifelong learning, Jim continued his education and later earned his MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology. After a distinguished 37-year career at Xerox, Jim retired to pursue his true passions: sailing and travel.

Jim and Joyce shared a deep love for the water. Over the years they owned several sailboats and were active members of the Sodus Bay Yacht Club, where they spent much of their summers. Together they sailed throughout the Great Lakes and even made two remarkable voyages to Florida aboard their sailboat. Jim later published a book recounting the journey.

Jim was deeply involved in his community and the activities he loved. He served as Scoutmaster for Penfield Troop 312, helping mentor and guide young scouts. An avid skier, Jim dedicated more than 50 years of service to the National Ski Patrol, and served as Ski Patrol Director at Swain Ski Patrol. Winter weekends were often spent on the slopes at Swain with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

A true engineer at heart, Jim had an incredible ability to fix almost anything and was always thinking of a better or more efficient way to do something. His curiosity, ingenuity, and determination were qualities admired by all who knew him.

Above all, Jim loved life and he loved his family. He will be deeply missed by many, but his remarkable life and adventurous spirit will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Bedrava Ebmeyer. He is survived by his children: Jeff (Tina) Ebmeyer, Chris (Roseann) Ebmeyer, and Lynn Martin; and his five grandchildren, William Ebmeyer, Reef Martin, Emily Ebmeyer, Sofia Martin, and Addison Ebmeyer.

Jim lived a full and extraordinary life, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, service, and love. He will be remembered always by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel located at Oakwood Cemetery(1975 Baird Road, Penfield, New York). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Swain Ski Patrol.

Jim and Joyce shared a life full of adventure, love, and partnership, and their family finds comfort in knowing they are together again.
