Andrew Barton (Andy) Halstead

July 1, 1958 – February 14, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Andrew Barton Halstead, on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Andy was born on July 1, 1958, to John and Virginia (Ray) Halstead. Raised in Penfield, he graduated from Penfield High School with the Class of 1976. After high school, Andy attended SUNY Plattsburgh before transferring to Virginia Tech, where he graduated in 1981.

Andy was a passionate outdoorsman, seeking adventure on the slopes in winter or spending time golfing, hiking, running, cycling, and playing soccer. He shared his love of the game by coaching girls’ soccer. Andy started a Wednesday night golf league decades ago that is still going strong. Andy found fulfillment in caring for the land at the Halstead Homestead and delighting in “fixing it up.”

Andy enjoyed traveling. He frequently joined family and friends on journeys by boat, car, or plane. He eagerly anticipated the annual gathering of brothers at the “rivah” house in Virginia.

Andy was truly a people person, always surrounded by friends he had made over the years. He made friends easily leading to a vibrant social life that included Saturday morning coffee at the neighbor’s up the road, monthly “Old Goats Club” dinners on Thursday, meeting for breakfasts, and hosting his twice annual bonfires. Andy attended every birthday party, every wedding every holiday party, every graduation.. every event to which he was invited. He came with a smile and if you were lucky his famous baked beans (Hollywood Salad).

He was predeceased by his parents, John (April 2002), Virginia (May 2005), and his sister Mary Louise (May 2008). Andy is lovingly remembered by his brothers and their wives: Jim and Judy of Williamsburg, VA; Charles and Jessica of Oneonta, NY; and Don and Sue of Geneseo, NY. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Tyler (Liz), Lizzie (Chris), Cara, Claudia, Angela (Bryan), Evan, Sarah, and Cedar. Andy was a devoted uncle to all of them, and a GREAT UNCLE seven times over.

Honoring Andy’s wishes, there will be no formal services. The family will be planning a summertime bonfire (date to be announced), inviting all family and friends who wish to gather in celebration of his life.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Strong Memorial Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care during Andy’s final weeks, and to Nulton-Jennings Funeral Home for their assistance with arrangements.
