David W. Beaulieu, 86, of Fairport, NY, passed away on February 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia.
Born on November 22, 1939, in Manchester, NH, to Augustus E. and Alice (Wallace) Beaulieu, David developed early the strength and endurance that would define his life. He carried those qualities into both his career and his passions.
David dedicated his professional life to Kodak, working at the Kodak Eastman Gelatin facility in Peabody, MA. Over the years, he served in a variety of roles, ultimately retiring in 1993 as the Environmental Safety Officer. He was respected for his integrity, diligence, and deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
While raising his family in Marblehead, MA, David was an active member of Star of the Sea Parish, where he played guitar at folk Mass and taught religious education classes. His faith was expressed not only in worship, but in service and community involvement. He was also a member of Rotary International in both Marblehead and Peabody, contributing his time and energy to local service initiatives.
In 1991, David married his wife, Barbara (Griggs), and together they continued to build a life grounded in love and partnership.
An avid outdoorsman, David found joy and renewal in the natural world. He loved hiking the White Mountains of New Hampshire, snowshoeing, and both downhill and cross-country skiing. He was never one to shy away from a challenge — whether biking across Nebraska with his brother-in-law, cross-country skiing hut-to-hut through the 10th Mountain Division system in Colorado or around Lake Tahoe, or teaching his toddler daughters how to ski. These adventures reflected his patience, endurance, determination, and adventurous spirit.
While living in Fairport, David was an active member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Genesee Valley Chapter, and during his years in New England, he was deeply involved with the Appalachian Mountain Club. Within both organizations he helped with trail clearing and environmental projects and frequently led trips. He believed strongly in conservation and in sharing the beauty of the outdoors with others. He also enjoyed contra dancing, embracing the music, movement, and community it brought into his life.
David was the proud father of daughters Laurie Beaulieu and Nicole Lang (Daniel P. Lang), both of Salem, MA, and stepfather to Jennifer Laurent of Burlington, VT. He cherished his role as grandfather to Jacob Andrews, Hannah Reavis, Brian and Arianna Laurent. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Brian Laurent.
He is also survived by his sister, Katherine Crandall (Winn Crandall); his brother, Philip E. Beaulieu; his niece, Diana (Crandall) Barbour; and his nephews, Casey and Mike Crandall.
David will be remembered for his quiet strength, adventurous heart, and unwavering devotion to family and the outdoors. His legacy lives on in the trails he helped maintain, the mountains he climbed, and the family who loved him deeply.
Services will be private, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to the Adirondack Mountain Club.
As John Muir once wrote, “The mountains are calling and I must go.”
