Margaret Ellen (Stephens) Maccio Obituary

Reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Richard; parents, James and Bessie; stepmother, Caroline; and sisters, Florence and Irene.  She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Mark of Rochester and Lee (Sue) of Jensen Beach, Florida; her daughter, Elaine (Sherry Desselle) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her adored grandchildren, Sarah, Ricky, Trevor, Caroline, and Emily; nieces, Charlene, Marjorie, Wendy, and nephew, David; extended family, Gwenn, Helen, Linda and Frank; and untold lifelong friends.

Peggy Stephens was born and raised in Hornell, New York, and graduated from Hornell High School in 1952.  Shortly thereafter, she moved to Rochester, where she began working at Eastman Kodak.  It was there that she met her future husband, Richard Maccio, of East Rochester. The two were married on September 29, 1956, and together built a loving home while raising three children.

A devoted and nurturing mother, Peggy was a skilled homemaker who always made her family a priority.  She rarely missed her children’s musical performances, sporting events, and other activities, frequently offering her time, encouragement, and hands-on support in meaningful ways.

Peggy was also an exceptionally talented artist.  She was an accomplished seamstress and a gifted painter of porcelain dolls, for which she lovingly designed and sewed intricate outfits.  Beyond her artistic pursuits, she enjoyed staying active as an avid bowler and tennis player.  She bowled with the Panorama Dodgers and played tennis at several locations throughout the area.  For many years, she also shared monthly canasta games with close friends from neighboring towns.

A faithful and dedicated member of Parkside United Methodist Church (now East Rochester United Methodist Church), Peggy lived her values through generosity and service.  She was always willing to make or mend clothing, drapes, fabric novelties, and porcelain dolls for others. Her kindness extended to her community as well, as she supported numerous charities with both her time and resources, including volunteering with the American Cancer Society and at local polling places.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 3:00-6:00 p.m, Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield.  Her Funeral Service will be Friday, February 13, 10:00 a.m., East Rochester United Methodist Church, 357 Fairport Road, East Rochester. Interment will be private for family at White Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, friends may consider donating to the East Rochester United Methodist Church, the Humane Society, a cancer charity, a dementia charity or a charity of your choice.
