Barbara H. Farrell passed away Friday morning, Sept 26. She leaves behind her devoted husband, James; three loving daughters, Aileen Castine, Alicia Bresley (Chris), and Sheila Munnings; four grandchildren, Andrea Bresley, Erin Bresley, Meghan Stark (Corey), and Matthew Castine (Katlyn); and four great grandchildren, Addie and Riley Stark, and Austin and Brayden Castine. She was the fifth of six children to Thomas and Mary Hunt.
Barb felt deeply about her faith and family. She was an inspiration to all of us. She lived her faith daily and truly lived life with kindness.
She started her career as a stay-at-home mom, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and eventually transitioned into a successful city school payroll supervisor until her retirement. Barb and Jim spent many happy years in Florida, playing golf and shelling with new friends. She was part of a very active Red Hat Ladies group. Barb loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. She truly wanted to live a full life.
Barb and Jim have had a large group of life-long friends who have shared many fun trips and parties together as well as life’s ups and downs. They have been blessed to find such good friends throughout life.
Barb lived her faith through volunteer work. She and Jim were charter members of the Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Throughout her life she was an avid gardener who fervently tried to get her daughters to take it up. Thankfully, Alicia finally took up gardening a couple of years ago, much to our mother’s delight. Barb received many compliments for her church garden at St. Joseph’s.
In order for her daughters to be able to enjoy scouting, Barb stepped up and started the St. John of Rochester’s Girl Scout troop. Many hilarious stories came out of those camping trips (ask dad about the latrines and waterfall hike), horseback riding dude ranches, and craft activities. She ran those troops for years so all three daughters could have those experiences.
Mom’s essence will truly be missed. She was one of a kind and we were all lucky to have her.
