Peter S. DelGiorno
May 31, 1934 – June 6, 2025
Peter S. DelGiorno, of Penfield, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Born on May 31, 1934, in Syracuse, New York, Peter was the beloved son of the late Victor DelGiorno and Gertrude Rose DelGiorno.
A lifelong learner and educator, Peter graduated high school from Christian Brothers Academy and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958.
Peter began his teaching career at McQuaid Jesuit High School, where he taught for four years. He then dedicated the majority of his professional life to teaching Social Studies at Penfield High School in the Penfield Central School District, where he was admired by students and colleagues alike for his knowledge, dedication, and passion for education.
An avid sports enthusiast, Peter was especially passionate about softball. He played first base well into his late 80s and spent 28 wonderful winters in Florida doing what he loved most—playing softball and enjoying the sunshine. He also treasured traveling, with memorable trips across Europe and to Hawaii.
Peter had a lifelong love of roses. He was a proud member and New York State rose judge for the Greater Rochester Rose Society. He found great joy in growing, showing, and judging roses, and his gardens reflected his care and attention to beauty.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Gertrude; his sister, Annette P. DelGiorno; and his sister-in-law, Delores Masich.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian J. DelGiorno; his children, Deborah (Mark) Reisweber, Peter (Kelly) DelGiorno, and Julie (Margie) DelGiorno; his brother, Robert (Pam) DelGiorno; grandchildren, Kenneth (Paula) Reisweber, Natalie (Peter) Basnight, Shannon (Elle) Hobbs, and Craig DelGiorno; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Masich, sister-in-law, Nancy (Tom) Matus, and sister-in-law Beverly Masich and many nephews, one niece, and many friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 13th at 12:00PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1355 Hatch Road, Webster, NY. Interment will follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY. A reception will be held at the Holy Spirit following internment.
(newspaper had gone to print before we could make the change in the obituary on the newspaper edition on the time of the mass)
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Boys Town.
