Passed away on May 15, 2025 at age 88. Roy was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his sons, Richard (Jacqueline) and Peter (Amanda) Copeland; grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Copeland and Alexa (Ali) Mehdizadeh; sister, Eleanor Sitts; sister-in-law, Helen Blend; nieces and nephews.
Roy was an August 1955 graduate of John Marshall High School and served in the US Army from 1956-1959. He then attended and graduated from MCC with a degree in Business Administration. Following this, he attended every accounting class available to him at RIT and The University of Rochester and was hired as an Auditor for Monroe County, retiring in 1998.
Roy was a proud member of the Penfield Fire Company and served as Captain of the Fire Police. He served as Treasurer of the Monroe County Fire Police Assoc., Treasurer of the Third Battalion Fire Police Assoc. and Treasurer of the Northfield Lodge #426 F&AM, Pittsford NY. He was a member of the Northfield Lodge until its merger with Inspiration Lodge and continues to be a member of Inspiration Lodge #109, F&AM.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield Tuesday, May 20th from 4:00-7:00pm. Roy's Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 21st, 12:00 Noon at Lutheran Church of Incarnate Word, 597 East Avenue Rochester. Interment will be held privately. Those wishing to honor his memory with a charitable contribution are asked to consider The Penfield Fire Company, who Roy considered the "Best of the best", 1838 Penfield Road, Penfield NY 14526 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rock Point Drive, Tampa Florida 33607.
