Obituary of Sue Jones
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Sue Jones of Penfield, NY—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend—passed away after a brief illness at the age of 85.
A proud lifetime resident of Penfield, she graduated from Penfield High School in 1958. On April 4, 1964, she married Thomes E. Jones, Jr., and began the adventure of a lifetime, raising two sons and living up to the family’s description of them as “the most fun and the coolest couple in our little family orbit.”
Professionally, Sue worked at Wickins & Ashnault Law Firm in Penfield, NY, for over 35 years. She also volunteered as a longtime member of the Penfield Ladies’ Auxiliary and was a proud supporter of the Penfield Fire Company. Upon retiring, she volunteered for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for many years.
Always up for a fun time, Sue was active in a bowling league for decades and she was renowned for her July 4th family picnics after the Penfield parade where all the Joneses could be seen sporting matching Old Navy flag t-shirts that Sue bought them. She loved to host holidays, high school reunions, and out-of-town visitors. The more the merrier for Sue. Never one to miss a party, she was even known to crash the cousin get-togethers.
Throughout the years, Sue and Tom loved camping with family and close friends, and vacationing in Disney World, the Florida Keys, the Caribbean, San Antonio, and Virginia Beach. Together they enjoyed countless Firemen’s Banquets, playing cards and sitting on the deck with friends, and spending time with their beloved grandchildren.
Sue is survived by her sons, Thomas “TJ” Edward III (Karen), and Timothy Scott (Tina); her grandchildren, Robert Thomas (fiancé Katherine), Rebecca Mary, Brady Scott, and Tory Marie; her brother, Stephen Poppoon (Nancy); her cousin, Ane Jones; and several close nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Jr.; parents, Louis and Marian Poppoon, and her brother, Michael Poppoon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 43 Gebhardt Road in Penfield, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Penfield Fire Company.
