Obituary - Robert F Hiler November 9, 1936 -March 26,2025
Robert F Hiler, age 88, entered into rest on March 26, 2025. He was born November 9, 1936, in Penfield, N.Y. to the late Charles and Lottie Hiler. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Charles Hiler.
Robert started his career in a machinist apprentice program at Gleason Works and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering. In 1961-1962 he served in the Army Reserves and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, for several months. He then went on to work at Kodak and various other companies. Robert was fascinated with rocks and minerals from an early age and in the early 1960's joined the Rochester Academy of Science Mineral Section. Many of his collections were from the Penfield and Walworth Quarries, and in July of 2016 he published an article in a Supplement to the Mineralogical Records for the American Northeast showing some of the outstanding minerals he collected. Robert was also very interested in collecting Indian artifacts and spent hours searching for arrowheads, Indian masks and Jesuit rings amongst other artifacts. He was part of the Browncroft Community Church and regularly attended church services.
Robert is survived by his son, Dan; grandson, Orion; granddaughter, Indigo; sister, Dorothy; and sister, Marjorie.
