Obituary of John F. Munnings

John Freemont Munnings
December 25, 1933 – February 11, 2025

John Freemont Munnings, 91, of Rochester, N.Y., passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025.

Born on Christmas Day in 1933 in Rochester, N.Y., John was the beloved son of William A. Munnings and Catherine I. (Arroll) Munnings. On June 6, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Weed) Munnings, and they shared 49 wonderful years together until her passing on October 17, 2002.

John proudly served in the National Guard in 1953. He built a lifelong career in the produce industry, working at Giambrone’s Produce before dedicating 25 years of service to Wegmans until his retirement.

A man of deep passion and loyalty, John adored the city of Rochester, cherished its rich history, and was a devoted fan of the Red Wings, Little League Baseball, the Buffalo Bills, and the Buffalo Sabres. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially summers spent with his wife and family at White Birch Park in Sodus Point, N.Y., and a cold Genesee Cream Ale. Above all, John treasured his family and the memories they created together.

John’s legacy of love and devotion lives on through his children, John M. Munnings (Tori Munnings) and Cindy L. (Munnings) Kubasiewicz (Gary Kubasiewicz); his grandchildren, Jaime McBride (Timothy McBride), Sean Banaszak (Melissa Smith), Clayton Munnings (Alicia Munnings), Thomas Munnings (Courtney Munnings), and Karlie Kubasiewicz (Hayden Smith); and his great-grandchildren, Timothy McBride (Grace McBride), Aidan Smith, Ronin McBride, Reagan McBride, Damen Smith, Bentley Munnings, Charlee Munnings, Rhys McBride, and Hudson Banaszak. John was predeceased by his beloved siblings George, James, Mary, Betty, and Anna Catherine.

A visitation to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, located at 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, N.Y.

In memory of John, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House. Contributions can be made online at https://rmhc.org/donate.

John will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community.
