Obituary of Christian G. Brandau
Christian (Chris) G. Brandau, 65, of Rochester, New York, passed away unexpectedly at his home, on December 27, 2024. Chris is predeceased by his parents, George and Grace Brandau, brother, George (Bruce) Brandau, and sister, Carol Heathcock. Chris is survived by his brother, Mark Brandau; sister-in-law, Carol; nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime companion, Dawn Retequiz.
Chris was born on July 15, 1959, in Rochester, New York, and grew up in the town of Penfield. For the past 32 years, Chris worked for PathStone Corporation, where he began his career as an Infiltration Aide and worked his way up to Weatherization Director which has been his role for most of his career. Chris was an outspoken and passionate advocate for the seniors and families he served, demonstrating a deep commitment to education and energy conservation for low-income families. His infectious enthusiasm for energy conservation was one of his greatest attributes, He was awarded the statewide Weatherization Management Award in 2017 and was inducted into the PathStone Advocate Hall of Fame in recognition of his long-term service to low- income families.
Chris was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating a lawn business since his early twenties, serving over thirty customers while also working his full-time job. He had a heart of gold for those who lived on a fixed income, often telling them to pay for his services whenever they were able.
Even though Chris’s strong work ethic kept him very busy, he always found time to make himself available to help family and friends when something needed repair. Chris also made time to attend social gatherings with his family and longtime friends who meant so much to him.
Chris will be dearly missed by all those who had the opportunity to share in his life. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
