John L. Altman Obituary

John L Altman grew up in the Georgetown- Myrtle Beach SC area where his stepfather was the chief of police. As a youth he was a golden gloves boxer and worked with horses.


A 20 year veteran of the United States Air Force, achieving a rank of Master Sergeant and serving as part of occupation force in Germany and Okinawa, and later part of the Atomic bomb testing team in Eniwetok.

After his retirement He became a successful manager at the Rochester divisions of General Dynamics and then Stromberg Carlson. He became a salesman for Ossman Instruments specializing in Fluke Electronics. John enjoyed sailing and golfing with his beloved wife Lucille, as well as watching movies, attending the theatre and being a music enthusiast. He was a member of the Genesee Yacht Club and the Blue Heron Hills Country Club.


In his later years he became a loyal and beloved patron of the Fairport Public Library.

Surviving children: John Altman Jr/Elides Cotis, Thomas C. Altman/Rosemary Altman, Jim Altman, Sharon Altman/Bruce Wells, Cathy Altman.


Grand children: Jodi O'Dell/John O'Dell, Alan Altman/Amanda Altman, Ben Altman/Elizabeth Altman, Jonathan Altman, Virginia Altman, Luke Altman, Jacob Altman, Laura Carboni, Alex Carboni.


Great grandchildren: Jace O'Dell, JJ O'Dell, Jocelyn O'Dell, Al Altman, Axl Altman, Ayla Altman, Elijah Altman.


Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
