Doris B. Lyons

Doris B. Lyons

Penfield - Doris B. Lyons, 88, of Penfield, NY, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

Born an only child of German immigrants Alex and Emma Breunig, Doris was affectionately nicknamed “Tops Divine” by her mother at an early age. This whimsical title was used to poke fun at her throughout the years. Doris was originally from Elmsford, NY yet after moving down-the-road to Thornwood, NY, she met and married her husband, John (Pinky) Lyons (deceased in 2016). After marrying Pinky in 1957, she gave birth to her daughter Karen in 1958 and her son Robert (Bob) in 1960. In the early 1960s, Doris began her 30-year career at the Guion Insurance Agency in Pleasantville, NY as a bookkeeper and Customer Service Representative. She absolutely loved her job and the people with whom she worked, especially her life-long friend Betty Belliveau. Doris and Betty shared a devoted and loyal friendship.

Doris is survived by two children, Karen (Roger) Hann of Deming, New Mexico, and Bob, (Jennifer) Lyons of Penfield, NY, as well as two grandsons Evan and Will Lyons whom she adored. Posing for a “thumbs up” photo with her grandsons became a treasured ritual at most family gatherings.

Doris will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She stuck to her daily routine and was known to respond, “I feel fine!” under any dire circumstances. She did not want to be a burden to anyone and prided herself on being self-sufficient. Doris loved working the polls on Election Day, and she also enjoyed hosting cocktail-hour with her infamous “snicky-snacks” for friends and family. She made wonderful friendships at the Legacy and Grande Vie in Penfield; it felt like family there for Doris, and it was gratifying to see her social, happy, and well cared-for.

As Doris would say with a glass of wine in-hand, “Here’s to it!”

Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 1-2 PM at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14526.  Her Memorial Service will be held privately with only family present.
