Obituary of Virginia Lane Brooks

Virginia Lane Brooks of Penfield passed away September 19, 2017 at age 96. Born in Corning, NY on July 27, 1921, daughter of Ralph and Louise Nelan Lane. She was predeceased by her husband, Gabriel G. Brooks; sister, Constance Lane Blanding of Painted Post, NY. Virginia is survived by 4 daughters, Judith (Timothy) Morgan, Barbara (Robert) Quinn, Deborah (Michael) McDaniel and Sara (Kevin) Houston; grandchildren, Emily, John, Robert, Andrew, Matthew, Gabrielle, Christopher, Steven and Carey; great-grandchildren, Mason, Mae, Robert and Lincoln; sister, Charlotte Lane Hamilton of Denver, CO; many nieces, nephews and good friends. Ginny met the love of her life, Gabe Brooks, and married on Christmas Eve, 1948. They moved to Penfield in 1950, and lovingly raised four daughters together. Ginny had a wonderful working career. After graduating high school, she completed an Associates Degree at Elmira Business School. Early in Ginny's working career, she worked at Elmira Rose Company, and Urbana Wine Company. The call of duty brought on by World War II spoke to Ginny. She answered the call by attending Nursing Cadet Training at Keuka College, joined the Fire Brigade, and became certified in First Aide. She moved to Rochester in 1946 to work for an osteopath. In 1962, she began her position as bookkeeper at Compston, Shaw and Stevens. She continued in this job until the age of 77. In 1972, Ginny pursued her love of being a first responder by joining the Penfield Volunteer Ambulance with Gabe. She also pursued her love of Christ by being a deacon at Penfield Presbyterian Church. Family and friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, Saturday September 23rd from 3-6 PM. Virginia's Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday September 24th, 2 PM at Penfield Presbyterian Church, 1881 Jackson Road, Penfield, NY 14526. Interment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
