Obituary of Joan T. Eiser

Joan Taladay Eiser, 89, of Rochester, NY passed away in Strong Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loved ones on June 27, 2017. Joan was born October 4, 1927 in Punxsutawney, PA, the second of 5 children. She worked in Washington, DC during WWII for the FBI and the company constructing Andrews Air Force Base and met the love of her life on the train ride home. She married Richard H. Eiser, also of Punxsutawney, on September 6, 1948. They shared 54 years of marriage before he died in 2002. They lived for many years in Bellefonte, PA before moving to Rochester, NY in 1973. They were active members of St. Thomas More parish in Rochester for 44 years. Joan loved her family, playing bridge, cooking wonderful meals, carol singing on Christmas night and the nightly cocktail and snackie ritual. Joan is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo (Thomas) Gigliotti of Canandaigua, NY, Gretchen (Steve) Morith, and Cathy (Peter) Cech of Rochester, NY as well as grandchildren Kate (Jerome Socolof) Gigliotti of Houston TX, Sarah Gigliotti of Canandaigua, NY, Kristen (Michael Olin) Morith of Toronto CA, David (Margaret Rich) Morith of Rochester, Emily, Maggie, and Tyler Cech of Rochester. She is also survived by her one sister (and best friend), Barbara Quinlisk of Rochester, sisters-in-law Joann Taladay of Rockville, MD and Myrna Eiser of Ellerslie, MD, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was predeceased by her husband Dick, sister Frances Cassidy, and brothers Jerome and John Taladay. The viewing will be held at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd, Rochester from 2-5 pm on Sunday July 2, 2017. The funeral Mass will be at St. Thomas More Church, 2617 East Ave, Rochester on Monday, July 3 at 10:00 am followed by burial at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd., Pittsford. Special thanks to her aide Mary Ann Schlitzer, her caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living, Strong Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit and Lifetime Care who made her final days peaceful.
