Obituary of Elizabeth Ward-Sullivan

Elizabeth (Betty) Ward-Sullivan, age 88, of Penfield, NY, previously of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, September 16, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ward; second husband Edward Sullivan; son, William Ward and sister, Mary Jane Harden. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Snyder (Jerry) of Penn Yan, NY with children Philip Snyder (Kelly) of Saranac Lake, NY; Robin Burton (Eric) of Jacksonville, FL; Adrian Phillips (Chris) of San Antonio, TX; son, Stephen Ward (Bernadette) of Penfield, NY with daughter, Holly Murphy (Todd) of Pittsburgh, PA and four great grandchildren; Annabelle Snyder, Maddox and Gavin Phillips and Kayla Murphy. Betty is also survived by an extended family of step children, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Williamsport, PA to Frank and Mary Sheffel. She grew up in Roaring Branch, PA and graduated from Canton (PA) High School. She attended Mansfield University and later Elmira College. After marrying Harry Ward, Betty and Harry moved to Elmira, NY where they raised their family. While living in Elmira, Betty worked for many years at Iszard's Department Store, taught fifth grade at St. Casmir's school and subsequently handled the financial and administrative aspects of her husband's businesses, M&W Electroplating and Eastside Oxide. She was a longtime member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Elmira, where she held various leadership roles, including president of the United Methodist Women. In her later years, she became a regular attendee of Pennsylvania Ave United Methodist Church in Pine City, NY. Betty remained in Elmira until 2014 when she moved to Aaron Manor Continuing Care in Penfield, NY. Friends and Family are invited to call on Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 AM at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 AM at the same location. There will be a remembrance service for Betty at Riverside United Methodist Church in Elmira, Thursday November 3 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers you may consider donations to Riverside United Methodist Church, 559 Spaulding St, Elmira, NY 14904. Betty's final resting place is Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira.
